Learner Me
I am a high school drop out. But I recovered.
Why?
Because education is a part of me. I was raised within it, have grown because of it, was expected to get it, work in the field of it, am awed by the power of it, and perpetually crave it. It is the stuff of life -- my life.
My mother was a teacher. So was my step-father. My brother is a teacher. So am I. Education is our legacy, and I could never stay parted from it... in any form.
I have experienced many variations of education -- Catholic school, public school, alternative school, junior college, university, graduate school. And education from everyday experience -- its most powerful form.
Perhaps my story is uncommon, perhaps I have become stronger because of it. But here's a little slice of that story.
On the pages that follow, the education chapter of my life that is my Master's work is reflected. It's just a little piece, but an important one; this program has helped me to reflect upon education -- the philosophy behind it, its purpose, my practice, and its implications for posterity.
This is learner me.
